About Me (In My Own Words)
Update Sept 2024;
Surgery completed. I’m now proud owner of a SJM/Abbott Epic Plus valve.
Update Apr 2024;
Did heart cath/angiogram. No issues and or blockages. Nevertheless my recent echo shows progression. Because I have no symptoms and my heart cath was good, my surgeon is okay to delay AVR until Sept 2024. I am working to schedule and mentally prepare myself now. I’m 67 yo and will have bio prosthetic aortic valve and the ascending aorta aneurysm repaired.
Update Feb 2024:
Recent echo showed progression. Gradient now 46. Threshold for surgery was >=40. I’m meeting with surgeon next week to discuss. I’m assuming it’s time to intervene. Still no symptoms but it’s a matter of time.
Update Dec 2023;
Last 2 echos show my valve stable and I have no symptoms so no surgery in 2023. My next echo is Feb 2024 so stay tuned. My Gradient is 33 and valve area .8. Ascending aneurysm is 44 mm. Once Gradient hits 40 or value area .7 or symptoms then I’ll schedule my surgery. I am nervous but I know I have to get this done.
Update Jan 2023;
I’m 66 years old with BAV. My Echos are more frequent now in prep for AVR. Next one late Feb 2023. I have met with and picked surgeon. Watching valve gradient and ascending aorta aneurysm mm. Also watching for any symptoms related to stenosis which is moderate at this time. Expecting to have surgery later this year 2023. Elected bio valve, either Edwards magnaese or SJM Epic depending on size needed once they remove my stenotic and calcified valve.
