About Me (In My Own Words)
I had a bicuspid stenotic aortic valve replacement with a cow valve in 2005 with open heart surgery. I have never had a problem with it since I got it and it’s been 16 years. I take a low dose aspirin and a mild blood pressure pill each day. I have been on statins to prevent artery disease, which runs in my family since I was in my twenties. I do not have artery disease! I have been out of breath a lot the last few years and I got thoroughly checked out by my cardiologist and it’s time for another aortic valve. I am a petite person and my valve is a small one so I’m not a good candidate for a Tavr . It would not function at capacity because of the size of my cow valve. I’m almost 70 years old. Getting another cow valve via open heart surgery again seems like my best option and it would be a larger cow valve that would accommodate a Tavr procedure valve replacement better down the road when I’m even older and less able to withstand another open heart surgery. I am type 2 diabetic, overweight, mild asthmatic and I have sleep apnea. I live in Pennsylvania now and I will be getting this done at Lankenau Heart Institute by Dr Basel Ramlawi. He said that lots of people have had re-replacements of aortic valves that have worn out but I can’t find them. If there is anyone out there who has been in my position, I would love to talk.
