Beth Saunders I also had the fluid build up- the sob was pretty frightening every time they laid me flat for something! I am home now- have lost 11 lbs (mostly fluid) since coming home and feel better and stronger every day! I am 11 days post op and feeling more and more normal- just protecting the sternum!

Rita Savelis Yes, alas, that is a side effect of OHS as your body tries to cope with trauma. I never had pain with pleural effusions but definitely discomfort, exhaustion and the inability to lie flat without feeling like I was suffocating. I had 4 pleural effusions, one in ICU, 2 more in hospital and for the last one I had to return in emergency about 2 months after OHS. I always felt great right afterwards with the increased lung capacity.
I feel for you Bill and hope you are through with side effects. Take care.

Power is back....we did have a kind neighbor next door who let us plug into his generator and keep refrigerator running and then just sit in front of a fan for two days. The local mall opened and we can go over ther now that the flooding has subsided, and walk the mall.
Leslie Bakos Great Bill...I hope you are feeling well.

We made it through the storm and was without power for 48 hours. We had some flooding, but nothing in house. Minor damage, but my perspective is very different after surgery. Cancelled follow up appointments and visiting nurse delays make me nervous.

Came home POD 4 and feel great to be able to sleep in my own house and bed. Hurricane Irma may interfere with some follow- up appointments. POD 1 was the worst! But pain has been getting better each and every day. I cannot say enough about Dr. Stowe and his staff and supported by the Indian River Medical Center staff. The Surgical ICU folks were amazing!

Gerald Poulton Hey good to hear Bill, yes the home bed was great ! And it will continue to get better, at your point I found it more awkward because if the limitations but even at week four , they are still there because of the sternotomy. It is hard to not do the things we normally do. Always good to hear positive results.
👍
Catie B Great to hear you're home, Bill, and that your pain levels are declining. Keep on healing!
