I had open heart about 10 years ago needed a new valve and was deciding between SAVR and TAVR. Well, I had a TAVR Wednesday the 15th. Luckily I was discharged on the 16th and am home. Although a bit sore I am able to move around. The overall procedure was very tolerable. Only issue is blood pressure has been higher than usual, but has been stabilizing. Hope this valve lasts as long as the SAVR valve which lasted 10 years. Wishing anyone getting surgery a wonderful outcome.

Hi, those of you have had a re-op aortic valve surgery. Can you tell me if you noticed differences relative to your first surgery in terms of healing and long term impact? Thanks

Robert Miller I didn't have aortic valve surgery but two open OHS within a year. The healing was different the second time. I am not sure if it's because it was a different surgeon the second time (a VERY reputable surgeon on this forum) or just because it was the second time. The difference is pretty minimal, though. It's mostly how the wound did feel the second time. From my experience, I believe the first and second time doesn't make a difference in regards to physical recovery (assuming your medical state was similar in both cases).
Dominick Amatulli Thanks Robert. Sounds like you experienced quite a challenge. I hope you are doing well.

Hi, I am a new member and appreciate this blog. I have gained a great deal of educational information from it. Thanks Adam. I had an aortic resection valve replacement 10 years ago when I was 57. Unfortunately valve is now leaking. I am now 67 and trying to figure out if I should get TAVR or surgery.. the issue is I will probably need another intervention after this. By all counts surgery seems like best option and TAVR later. But getting back on table again scares me. I am interested in hearing if anyone has had to make this decision recently and how they approached it. Thanks
