Marie Myers If you are getting any narcotic pain meds, the Nausea can be a result of those meds. You can ask for an anti-nausea med like ondansetron (Zofran), and try to get by with Tylenol for pain. As far as the tubes and pacer wires out, I did not find that to be bad at all. But everyone is different, so, you could ask for a dose of Tylenol prior to the chest tube removals. Taking out the IVs and arterial line don’t hurt. You just have to lie flat for a while after the central line ( usually in your neck) removal. The Body soreness Will improve bit by bit. Hang in there!

Terrie Syvertsen Hello Jennifer. I also experienced the nausea and soreness you speak of. Like Marie Myers suggested I immediately asked for Extra strength tylenol from the get go and found it gave me immediate relief. Try to be patient as the chest tubes will be removed soon. Marie gave you good advice. The best to you as you enter your recovery and be kind to yourself each and every step of the way.

Darrin Vohs Hi Jennifer, Huge congratulations on completing the surgery. The fact that you are posting after two days means to me that it went very well. The best thing in the world (IMO) is when you no longer have the chest tubes (blah). Take Tylenol before, take a deep breath and then blow out when they pull out each tube. It is a fast process. The wires and IVs and arterial line are like Marie said... "don't hurt."

Pat Bluemel Zofran did zero for my nausea, ask your nurses for something else if it's not working. Also getting to tylenol ASAP helps with it as well, or at least getting painkiller in pill form. Tubes out brings great relief, it takes like 5 minutes. You will feel so much better once they are gone (doesn't hurt, just feels weird).
