I am doing pretty well with cardiac rehab, but still have some dizzy spells and shortness of breath if I go for an all out effort. In cardiac rehab, we do moderate effort exercise, but if I am out on my own (say on my bike) and I go real hard, I get dizzy, have shortness of breath, and simply have to stop. Rarely, I have to stop and brace myself against something until the dizziness subsides. Has anyone else experienced this 3 months after mitral valve repair? Thanks.

Bobbi Rockey My mitral and aortic valve was replaced 7 months ago. I still have dizzy spells with exertion. But they get less severe and less often. Would still mention it to your doc.

Bobbi Rockey You have to believe that you will get back to where you were and working every day at getting there. Don't get discouraged. It's just going to take time. Nobody knows how much time but that's where your belief that you can do it comes in! I wish you the very best.
JJ Milton Thanks again Bobbi. I really appreciate it. hope you are doing well.

I had minimally invasive mitral valve repair surgery on 04-13-2016. Today, I am 7 weeks out. The recovery has been a bit on the tough side. I had dizziness, vision problems, some chest pain, afib, buzzing/vibrations in my head, ...........the list goes on. All of these have seemed to pass.....yea! About 10 days ago, my blood pressure started to elevate. It is usually highest when I get up in the morning and in the evening. I went to cardiac rehab early today and it was 164/90. When I left rehab it was 130/80.........much better. It seems to get worse when I am lying down. Also, lying down seems to bring on irregular heartbeats and sometimes afib. I was put back on amiodarone a couple of weeks ago. I am taking 50 mg Metoprolol 2x day, 12.5 mg HCTZ 1x day, and, as of last night, 5mg of amlodipine 1x day. Anyway, has anyone experienced high blood pressure after being 6-7 weeks out of surgery? Thanks.

Dan Edle I am 12 weeks from my mitral valve repair surgery by the open heart method. I had an issue with AFIB while in the hospital but it passed. I also was on 50 mg Metoprolol 2x day, but was tired all the time so my cardiologist reduced it to 25mg 2X a day and it got a little better, but still do feel tired a lot. My chest has healed, and have no pain there. I also am doing cardiac rehab 2X a week, but may end it at the end of June. I may send my cardiologist an email asking if he can take me off Metoprolol, and replace it with something else.
JJ Milton Thanks Steven and Dan. I appreciate the responses

Ruth Valenzuela I was taken off the metoprolol which caused a huge weight gain. I think I need to be put back on because my heart rate is staying in the 100s even when I rest. Ugh... I'm hoping I can be put on something else that doesn't cause weight gain.
Denise Campbell Ruth, that's why why doc upped to 50mg. Now my hr is 87 at rest.
