Rita Savelis Bentall procedure replaces aortic root (to deal with aneurysm) and can include replacement of aortic valve or not. You should probably have a discussion with your surgeon.

Marie Myers Big difference between the 2 procedures! As Rita said, a Bentall may involve replacing the aortic valve with either a tissue valve or a mechanical valve. A Ross Procedure replaces your aortic valve with your own pulmonary valve, and a donor valve is placed into your pulmonary valve position.

Joshua Clegg Just called the cardiac office about this. They said it's the way system is set up. On their end, they're seeing "Ross/Bentall" pending upon pre op assessment to see if I'm a good candidate for it or not with Ross being my first option and Bentall as a backup.

The date of the big day has been set, and I'll have the Ross procedure on Oct 18th. I'll be doing the pre-op assessment on Oct 11th. Wish me luck!

I'm new to this. I'm a 44-year-old male with BAV and severe stenosis. My wife and I met with a cardiac surgeon earlier this morning, and he said I'm a good candidate for the Ross procedure. Before this meeting, I've been struggling mentally with anxiety and fear since last week's echocardiogram results. Do you guys have any book recommendation that would help ease my worry and fear?

Rose Madura Hi Joshua, welcome to this site. I'm sorry you need to have surgery. I would recommend Adam Pick's book. He has the Ross Procedure and he discussed the entire process. I'm sure it will help you. I had my BAV replaced with a tissue valve. I also had an ascending aneurysm and arch repair. OHS is no picnic in the park, but is very doable. God bless you this journey. Trisha Gross Hi Joshua, I also read downloaded Adam’s book and read tons of research online about the Ross. I completed the Ross Procedure Aug.22nd 2024 at Cleveland Clinic. It is normal to have those fears but I will say once I found my surgeon, I felt comfortable and was ready to go. Make sure you feel confident with the surgeon. You got this!
