In January I had a episode of feeling lightheaded and very cold sweat, I went to get up and go to the bathroom and I collapsed, I had fainted. I had a echocardiogram which showed that my mitral valve was leaking. My cardiologist had me go for a TEE, this showed that there is a leak and it may possibly causing some of my symptoms, shortness of breath especially when going upstairs. This brought up the discussion of should it be repaired now or wait. I started to get very anxious I am terrified of having to go through this a 3rd time. Yesterday I went for another consult and a 3D TEE. The leak was confirmed and compared to the TEE I had on 1/30/19. They feel that it is leaking more than they thought based on the 1st TEE. So now I am waiting to hear what plan of action is best. Right now they are leaning toward OHS and replacing the valve, I have Von Willebrand Disease so this complicates it more. maybe Mitral clip, as a team the doctors will make a decision. I am so afraid of having to go through this again. I just needed to write this down. any comments are welcome.

Valerie Herndon-Vitarella So sorry to hear that you are having problems with your valve leaking again. I hope you don't have to have surgery yet again. I have also had 2 mitral repairs and certainly would not want to be facing surgery for a third time. Please keep us posted.
Marie Myers Hope you get some great news. Prayers your way!

Today is the 1 year anniversary of my 2nd Open heart surgery for valve repair, ring annuloplasty implants on my mitral valve and tricuspid valve. 2 weeks ago I had an annual echocardiogram, and today I had a TEE, it shows mild leakage of both valves. I am seeing my cardiologist in 2 weeks, but I still have concerns, should I ? I feel great. My scar is still sensitive but otherwise a lot better than 1 year ago.
Thanks, Judy

I underwent valve repair surgery with implants for both my Mitral valve and tricuspid on December 14, 2016. While still hospitalized it was determined that my Mitral valve implant was not successful and I underwent Open heart surgery a 2nd time. I have been having a lot of anxiety since my surgery, I am hoping that this blog will help me realize I am not alone, and everything I am experiencing is normal.

Rita Savelis I hear you, Judy. The anxiety you are experiencing is normal. Having to have OHS two times in sequence happens and it is very hard to deal with. Of course you have anxiety as you come to grips with it. It can be hard to feel "safe" again.
I had my aortic and mitral valves replaced and my tricuspid repaired in the same surgery. Then unexpected things happened - like the need for a pacemaker operation and several pleural effusions soon afterwards.
It felt like way too much happened in a short interval of time. Unexpected events for me, but common side effects/possible after effects to a surgeon or cardiologist.
It is all still early for you.
I recommend talking to a therapist or writing out your experiences so that you can process them.
I wish you the best and keep posting.

Judy Schaefer Thank you, I had Annuloplasty rings Edwards Lifesciences Implanted Devices. My surgery was performed at Westchester Medical Center. I was very pleased with the Hospital the staff and my surgeons. My problem was I didn't know what to expect and I asked few questions. I spent 21 days in the hospital and 7 days in rehab. once I went home I was on my own. I am going to start cardiac rehab.what a hassle waiting for my insurance to approve and then a waiting list as there are very few programs in the area. I have increased my walking because my legs are so weak. but it is so wonderful to be able to walk and breath normally. Rita I understand what you mean. It seemed to be too much too soon. I am feeling better. Thank you all!
Lisa Giaccone Sorry to hear that you are going through this! Prayers for you!
