Hi, I'm scheduled for a potentially high risk open heart surgery in three days to repair my severely stenotic mitral valve, and I'm being admitted into the hospital tomorrow . I haven't talked about this surgery with the surgeon yet since my condition has worsened and this surgery has been moved up earlier.
I'm hoping to receive support from this community. I'm feeling very scared right now. Thank you!

Robert Miller Why high risk? Do you really have to do it this quickly? And you haven't talked to your surgeon??? Have you ever interviewed him? Have you ever discussed this with a second surgeon?
I went to urgent care, they sent me right to the hospital not allowing me to drive myself (my wife came and picked me up leaving my car behind) and the hospital staff first didn't approve me to leave. They eventually did when I told them I just need a few days to decide on a surgeon, etc. A few days for something completely new that I never thought about before wasn't much time but it helped me prepare better. If you read my posts, I am all for doing it earlier than later but if you can just get a few days, I think that will help a lot. And for sure talk to your surgeon.

Also, why they say “potentially high risk.” Is it more than the fact it is open heart? I know being fast-tracked leaves little time but if you if you can take some deep breaths and have someone else in the room when you ask these questions, for clarity, you may feel better.
