My mitral repair went flawlessly today. Chest hurts a bit, but not enough to keep me from being overwhelmed wih gratitude for all the people in my life who made the surgery possible and the ones who will love me through my recovery. Much love to all those with upcoming surgery dates. I know I wasnt a very active poster, but I woul like to leave you al with my best wishes.

I'm one week away from OHS for mitral repair, possibly replacement depending on how it goes. My surgery is just 2 months our from being in the ICU for atypical pneumonia and ARDS. The trauma from nearly dying and being intubated for 4+ days has me pretty wary about returning for surgery. The mitral regurgitation is very likely why the pneumonia affected me the way it did, so I have to get this done. I'm very worried about getting pneumonia again due to my impending OHS. I'm hoping the medical team play to pay extra special attention to that aspect of my post op, but who knows. I just wish I could find away to be completely at peace with this and go with it.

I've had an angio, echo, and TEE. I see lots of people getting CTs before their surgery. Should I worry that my cardiologist/surgeon have not ordered a CT?

Enrique K Hello Mike, usually you get the CT Scan with and without contrast before any of the procedures listed above. Do not be worried ask your surgeon why he has not done the CT? Maybe that is the last thing he wants to get accomplished before your surgery.

Elaine Cutri No, you should not. I had a CT after an echo detected a dilation of my aorta root. The CT or MRI is the best way to determine the size and shape of the dilation in the artery. A CT for your condition may not be necessary. They will most likely do an angiogram to determine the state of your coronary arteries just before surgery. It sounds like they are collecting the appropriate data.

I've had 4 open heart surgeries. I never had a CT until the aorta aneurysm developed. That was repaired in my last surgery in May 2015.

Mike Conder They did the angiogram. All my arteries are fine. The prolapsed mitral valve is the only issue aside from some small amount of enlargement of, I think, the atrium. Maybe they don't need a CT for that.

I had low arterial SATS during angiogram so they've ordered CT and lung function. My CT is lungs and not heart, they didn't need one for heart.
