Marie Myers My pressure was higher after surgery as well. It did settle down a couple months into recovery though. My cardiologist wanted me to stay on beta blockers, so I will do that. I would say to discuss the issue with your cardiologist next time you have a checkup.

Marie Myers I think it is important to measure and record your blood pressures over a period of time, and then discuss your results with your doctor. The overall trend is more meaningful than any one particular reading. You might try checking your BP morning and night for 2 weeks, and see what your doctor thinks with that information.

Rita Savelis Hi Moussa,
A mechanical valve is a good choice for a young patient, especially a man (because you don't have to worry about pregnancy or periods). A tissue valve will calcify quickly in a young patient. Your doctor is hoping to avoid your having to be reoperated every 5 to 10 years. I got 2 mechanical valves (aortic and mitral) 5 years ago when I was 54.

Rita Savelis It takes some time for your body to get used to anticoagulants, and you do have to do regular blood tests (inititally frequently, but later maybe once a month) because your INR will go up and down. It took my body months to get used to anticoagulants. I haven't changed my diet. I eat everything in moderation and work my medication around that. Of course it's a drag to have to take medication. I wish I didn't. But I also wish I hadn't had to have heart surgery. Things happen and you adjust to them. You can still exercise once your body recovers from surgery. Recovery times vary. I'm sorry you have to go through all this Moussa. It's not fair. You're young. I used to wish I had been 80 when I had heart .surgery so that I could get tissue valves and not worry about meds or having re-surgery. Take care.

Elyse Sherman I'm thinking about na I g the Ozaki procedure drone at the Cleveland Clinic.A piece of your pericardium is fashioned into an aortic valve which fits perfectly and which does.not capacity rapidly it has ask.I later longer shelf life.than the mechanical valve with no anticoagulants needed. I'm a bit nervous because it's still in clinical trials but Dr. Pettersson and Dr.Unai.have performed over 50 at CC with great results. My surgery is on 1/15 and I have u til then to chose between the conventional porcine or.bovine valve or this new procedure. Thoughts?

Marie Myers Once you have fully recovered, you can exercise normally. I would ask my surgeon if there are any weight-lifting limitations due to the aortic graft. I had the aortic valve, ascending aneurysm, and aortic root aneurysm surgery done 3 years ago, and I am back to playing tennis, walking, yoga and bike riding . You are young, and will do well I am sure!

Mike Roskowinski Hello Moussa... I had my surgery in 2019 before I turned 40. I worked out 5 days a week and played various sports. After surgery it took some time to get back into feeling normal when working out. Heart pumped harder or it feels like. Plus getting your sternum back to feeling 100% was what took the longest. I started to get back into my full routine towards the end of summer. I was out golfing and playing volleyball. My weight lifting went to less weights and more reps. It has the same effects on your body for muscle and will not cause a concern with blood pressure and sternum soreness. Take it easy to getting back into a routine. You have the rest of your life to get back to the gym. Only now the issue is requirements for masks while working out. I don't think that is safe at all and has caused me to stop going to the gym. I have a little workout area at home but I need more. Hoping to find out more about masks and working out.

Kirk Bepler Moussa - Absolutely you will be able to exercise again as normal once you fully recover, you just need to ask your cardiologist when you can fully resume. I was able to start again and was told by my cardiologist "Go for it", you will know when you are pushing it to far or too fast. But you will get back to all the normal things in time, just think about healing right now...
