Hi everyone, i just received some bad news! My new mitral valve that was placed in March of 2016 is not working correctly. I have a apt with the surgeon after Christmas to learn of my options. Anyone had to have their valve replaced so soon! I am freezing out!!!!

Bruce Hodges Hi Norine, I had a mitral valve replaced with a pig valve and it calcified and tore and I had to have it replaced with a prosthetic valve - that was over thirty years ago. You will be fine.
Barbara Wood Oh no! So sorry to hear that. Best wishes & keep us posted!
Marie Myers Sorry to hear that news! Hope the news is good at your appointment!
Norine Dowd Thanks everyone! I keep you all posted.

just passed the 7 month mark and feeling great. Energy is returned and I can now walk 5 miles with ease. I had a elevation of my liver enzymes and was taken off all statins for two months. Liver is back to normal but LDL cholesterol is 150. Now on twice monthly injections of Repattha. All I can say is that I hope my kids do not want to inherit any thing because it will be all gone paying for drugs. I have a apt with cardiologist in December and we will see if this is working. Mean time really watching diet.
I am coming to grips that my valve may be fixed and my arteries open, but I still have heart disease and will be a heart patient the rest of my life.
Surgery did not fix it all!

Cathy Zuber Hi Norine!! I know what you mean! I will be left with heart issues for my life also ! I am almost 7 months out from mitral valve replacement. I am back to work ( part time retail) and am doing everything around the house I did before. If it was warmer, I'd be out in my flower beds!, I was left with some congestive heart issues!! I can walk about 20-50 feet, then have to catch my breath. That's been hard for me to accept. Hey!! I get a handicapped sticker!!???

Hi everyone! I hope that every one who has had their surgery is well on the road to recovery. If you are waiting for your surgery, my wish for you is to trust that it will all be fine. Stay as calm and positive as possible.
Next week will be 5 months since my surgery. I am feeling my old self again. It is like the clocks were turned back three years.
I do have a few concerns. Has anyone had a unusual elevation in their liver enzymes after surgery. Last month I had a lipid panel done and my Dr was very concerned with the dramatic ingrease in liver numbers. I was not on any new meds, as a matter of fact I am taking less meds.
Stoped one of the cholesterol meds and next week we will recheck.
The second question is about memory loss. I have a real problem remembering things that happen in the past. Post op? Bypass? Old age?
Thanks for any input.
Norine

Marie Myers I think bypass does not do any good for our brains. What does your doc say? I know my thinking speed seemed slow for a few weeks. As far as the liver enzymes go, I know the statins can affect them. Have they ruled out hepatitis ?

Gerald Poulton Hi Noreen, all I can suggest is water, water and more water. Doctors have commented to me several tims on my organ conditions being so good.
I drink probably a gallon of water every day. Over 60 % of your body is water so it needs a constant supply but water also flushes out your body and organs which is extremely important. They call my internal medicine specialist the hydration doctor and he is endlessly going on about the importance of consuming large amounts of water for your body, organs and health. All the best 💧
Norine Dowd Thanks! Yes I do need to hydrate more! I will get on that!

My heart rate has been running in the high 80s to low 90 since my discharge and my BP A little on the high side. The dr increased my meds. Now on twice the dose and my resting pulse is 110-114. I have an apt with cardiologist this afternoon. Hopefully we can get the correct dose or the correct meds to get my pulse down !

My pulse was 114 while lying in a hospital bed with holter monitor on. Took a while to get my pulse down with Metoprolol and I now have Congestive Heart Failure of the left side. I am told this is kind of common after a Valve Replacement. So I hope your pulse rate and BP issues are just a glitch and resolve. God Bless You My Friend
Norine Dowd Thanks! Sorry you have to deal with CHF. Stay well

Only one more day at home before I leave and travel to Fort Lauderdale for my surgery on Friday. My to do list is long and my energy level is so low I don't know how I will get it all done.
Packing and making aragments for my pets and plants is keeping me too busy to think or worry too much about surgery.
I am feeling so confident all will go well. Reading about how members of this group did with their surgery has given me a lot of peace of mind.
I am going to have so much done to my heart though. Has anyone else had multiple valves replace and bypasses and catitid atery all done in the same surgery?

But in the heart surgery Olympics I think those who have bypasses win the award.
I'm sorry you have to go through OHS. But once surgeons are inside, they might as well do all the work.
Surgeons are good at what they do.
Recovery can be a long tiring process, but you just keep moving forward in small steps.
take care Norine.
