Well, I am nearly 3-months out of surgery and going strong. I have completed 3 1-hour sessions of Cardio Rehab (33 more scheduled) and have found this to be a wonderful bit of cardio education. I am still watching my lifting, pushing and pulling; however, I know my breastbone is probably mending well (not the time to take chances). My advice to all - maintain a postive attitude and walk - get out of that easy chair and move!

Well, it has been 1-month, 7-day since my surgery (repaired Mitral Valve and performed a Bypass of my Right-Coronary Artery. I have become a walking fool (over 65-miles last week / too much - have backed it down to 5-miles per day). I try to get out twice a day for a nice walk / my area includes flats and rolling hills. Since walking, my blood pressure and pulse have stabilized. I notice improvement in my endurance on a day basis. I have been released back into the care of my Primary Care Physician - just giving my breastbone adequate time to fuse back together. POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND GETTING UP AND OUT EVERY DAY IS KEY TO YOUR SUCCESSFUL RECOVERY! PLEASE DO IT!

Norman Schloss Thanks Linda - I don't hit this page frequently enough! Walking - well as my surgeon said, we did not operate on your legs (I am not a TV watcher or a couch potato, so walking was one thing I could do a lot of! I am still walking and just recently added Cardio Rehab 3-days a week for 12-weeks (wonderful)!

Hello All - I am scheduled for my Pre-Op 8/8 and Surgery 8/9. I have a Mitral Value regurgitation issue we have been watching for approximately 2-years and a recently discover 100% blockage of my Right Coronary Artery. The strange thing, in my case, I don't have any of the symptoms one would expect - no shortness of breath - no pains - not tiredness, etc. I am still working without incident.
When I found out I would need surgery, I was in shock and then came the fear. I read Adam's Book, did a lot of reading about the heart and talked to many friends. When I finally had the opportunity to speak with my surgeon, I had sufficient knowledge and understanding about what I was about to face. An hour and half later, I said I am ready to undergo Open Heart Surgery in order to correct my problems.
Never have I felt better, than I did that day, when I left the doctor's office. No fear, no shock, no regrets - I came home and told my wife of my decision (she broke down in tears). I then suggested she read Adam's Book and talk with others - in a short time she too, has come to realize the best is yet to come.
To me, being positive, having faith and putting trust in those who you select to work with will carry you through! I am ready and look forward to the 9th! Thank GOD, I do not have any other medical issues - the first time I was ever inside a hospital, other than visiting others, was May '16 when I had two procedures performed to further evaluate the condition of my Mitral Valve.
Wishing all a Blessed Experience - Prayers to all for a Successful Recovery!
Cathleen Weed The best is absolutely yet to come! Will be thinking of you and your family and cheering you on!

Norman Schloss Thank you both for the positive statements and encouragement. I find it interesting how others view the unknown (others. when I say I am having open heart surgery don't understand how I can be so upbeat). I tell them all my life I have applied the "Serenity Prayer" to everything i do!

Ben Hyman Hello Norman. I'm in the same boat. I've known about my Mitral Valve Prolapse since my late 20's. I'm now 59 and it has progressed to severe regugurgitation. My current surgeon (Dr Robert Farivar at Mpls Heart Institute) thinks I'll need surgery in 1-2 years. I also have no symptoms and very active with Kettlebell and biking. I'm thinking about getting another consult at Mayo in Rochester as they have a Robotic option that could mean a faster recovery as they don't open your Sternum. Not everyone is a candidate. They are ranked #2 behind Cleveland Clinic where my current doc's group is ranked 31st in the nation. What criteria did you use to choose where you would have your surgery? I also admire your healthy attitude and I'm sure you'll do great

Norman Schloss Hi Ben - my regurgitation problem was discovered about 2-years ago after getting pneumonia 2 times within 13-months - PCP ordered complete Pulmonary & Cardio work up. Was on the "watch & wait list" - in April, my Cardiologist ordered additional testing and it was discovered I also have 100% blockage in Right-Coronary Artery. The time had come to take action - my surgery will be performed at Mercy General Hospital, Sacramento, CA by Dr. Allen S Morris (practicing 28-years). I was hoping for the "da Vinci" procedure; however, the problem with my artery requires Open Heart. I am excited and looking forward to putting this behind me. I am so blessed this problem was found - I LOVE LIFE!
