This my second post about my 40 year old son who is having valve repair on Nov. 27th. We started to get the guest room ready for him. A friend is going to lend us a recliner. As it gets closer to the surgery I’m feeling anxious & nervous. I can’t wait til this is behind my son & the family. His preop took all day. He didn’t talk too much about it or the upcoming surgery.

Susan Lynn Paula - waiting is the worst part. Do what you can to stay positive. The surgeons and their teams are highly experienced and will take excellent care of your son. Follow their instructions and you'll both do just fine. All the best.

My son is 40 years old. He will be having his repair done Nov. 27th. He works out & is in very good physical shape. Right now emotionally he isn’t doing all that good. What I want to know is as a caregiver what should I expect when he comes home & is there anything specific we can do to make him comfortable. It was recommended that a recliner chair will help a lot. Any info would be very much appreciated.

Willie Radl A recliner was a must for me, I slept in it for a few weeks. I had aortic valve replacement with mini sternotomy. Waiting is the hardest part, he just needs to stay positive. Post surgery I've realized my life is 99% the same as it was before surgery but I remember when I found out I needed surgery I thought my life was going to be drastically different. It's definitely normal to be stressed about it, but it will be okay. 👍

Susan Lynn I'd also recommend a shower chair. He should try to keep his showers short and water temperature a bit lower. Blood pressure drop and weakness can result, so it's good to have the chair if he needs it. Best of luck.
