5 months post AVR. Believe it or not, I've developed plantar fasciitis while trying to get back to my running. Sternotomy is healing well, but, the pain in my right foot is cramping my style!

Nearly 4 months since my AVR. Been cycling up to 20 miles. Able to jog in short intervals up to a few minutes between intervals of walking. Not 100% yet, but feeling like I am improving. Going to start some light strength training now. Best wishes to all zipper club members!

9 weeks post AVR. I am back working in the ER. Been riding the bike on my patio using a stationary trainer. Walking with my wife up to 4 miles at a time. Being cautious not to push it to hard. Wishing everyone in the zipper club well!

I'm now 3 weeks post aortic valve replacement (tissue valve). My sternotomy incision is well healing and my pain is under control. I have to say, using my incentive spirometer and walking has been a huge part of my progress. I can't wait to return to running and cycling, but, I am following my doctor's instructions and allowing my body time to heal. It's not easy, however, it's the right thing to do. I've also found time to read lot's of books. Always looking for the positive. Best wishes to all!

Bob Jensen Robert - welcome back!!!!!!!!!!!!! You and I had our surgery the same day in Orlando and i am 3 weeks post op too now. I am off the pain meds and still have stamina issues, but healing slowly. I have been looking for you back on line. Feels great to be on this side of the surgery doesn't it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I highly suggest writing down your questions and concerns before visiting with your surgeon. A little preparedness helps to offset much of the anxiety that patients and family members experience.
