Renee Leunig I’ve been on warfarin since diagnosed with AFib in May. Other than needing to be mindful of what you are eating and drinking, it hasn’t significantly affected my life. I had surgery in July and did experience massive bruising which still hasn’t completely resolved. I do visit the anticoagulation clinic for a 5 to 10 minute appointment every week or so, but reducing the risk of stroke makes it worth my time.
Sue Stone they said I can not drink much.. what other items do you look for when you eat?

Renee Leunig I don’t drink much anyway, but alcohol will increase your INR. If I plan to have a drink, I’ll also plan to have a nice green leafy salad or broccoli. It seemed to keep me in balance. Just stay mindful.

Valerie Allen Sue, you might want to start by talking with Delise Becker, above. It looks like she is researching a double valve issue, but a different second valve. Since no one else is jumping in.
I feel like just need to cry this out.. why me... what if there is a third one in the future.
Valerie Allen I hear you. It’s a terrible shock. I know others will have better information on two valves.

Richard Munson Don’t think why me is that unusual a reaction when finding out about impending open heart surgery. Most of us might have thought that at some point. Me included. Concentrating on the surgery you currently require and not worrying about a third one which may or may not happen might be good medicine.

Rose Madura Once again, Richard is right! Try to focus on the here and now. Do research. Ask questions. Ask your cardiologist what you can do now to help have a good outcome. Get a second opinion. I know you are shocked right now but you must be your own advocate. Godspeed.

Richard Munson Never lie to an 11 year old. They are smarter than we give them credit for. There must be a way to convey that mommy has to have a serious operation to make her better stressing better, and that she has a great doctor to do it. I bet you will get some great answers from folks on this site that faced the same issue. I think you need to be strong which in turn sends the right message to your child.
