I think I would like to know how bad things have to get before surgery is done. I’m always dizzy, feel like I can’t breathe, and it’s making my anxiety worse. At my last visit the Dr said the dizziness wasn’t even related to my valve problem. Super frustrated.

Lisa Guinan Have you had an echocardiogram? My problem was my mitral valve. I didn’t have any noticeable symptoms but my ventricle started to enlarge and my cardiologist said it was time for surgery. An echo will tell you how bad your regurgitation is and if there’s any enlargement in your heart.
Tammy Thomas Yes he said there really wasn’t any change from last years echo.
Brian Havlin Lisa is 100% right. Get an echocardiogram and a second opinion.

Debbie Moriarty My cardiologist used to ask me at every visit if I was experiencing ANY dizziness at all!! And if I was having ANY difficulty breathing!! Those are two very important indicators, in my case anyway!! I would def get a 2nd opinion if you can. My cardiologist actually recommended surgery before I was even experiencing symptoms!!

Michelle Jurkouich I switched cardiologists this past fall because I felt my previous one wasn't listening to me. My new one is great. She listened and did more tests. Both her and the surgeon who did my Cath both agreed people will present differently. Some have symptoms earlier while others do not have any. They both recommended surgery for me even though my numbers were mixed (moderate/severe) because I am having symptoms. I would find someone that you are comfortable with.

Hi Tammy, I too had to get three different opinions. The first one said I needed surgery even though I didn’t present symptoms, the second said I wouldn’t need surgery for another year or so and the third one said I needed it right away and he performed the Bentall procedure. I’m one year post op and feel great. I will be praying for you to have a successful surgery and a speedy recovery on New Year’s Day. God bless you
