Read your story. I also live in VA and had my mitral and tricuspid valves repaired by David Adams. Like you, I have MAC and it is considered "severe" and was actually even worse than Dr Adams thought once the repair started. My repair was successful; three years and going. Thinking of you! Expect to beyond exhausted, but each day you will get remarkably stonger. I had little appetite the first 3 days so protein shakes were a best friend❤️❤️❤️

Hi Bruce,

I have had two Mitral Valve repairs; one in 2010, and more recent in 2022, in New York, at Mt. Sinai with Dr. Adams and his team doing the honors. I am 65 and I'm in pretty good shape. My biggest problem now is herniated disks in my neck and back but they fixed the heart problem. The expense of staying in N.Y.C. is secondary to your health and peace of mind, and you've probably already done your research and so you know that David Adams is the best in the world at valve repairs.

Hi Bruce, Any updates on your Surgery? FYI, I grew up in Staunton, and have skied at Wintergreen many times. I had Calcification at my mitral valve with prolapse and severe regurgitation. Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Gillinov we’re able to remove the calcium and make a Valve repair. Today 1 year later, I’m a new Man at 63. 💔❤️‍🩹❤️

Bruce Slater Dan - Thanks for your posting. I now have a surgery date of April 5 with Dr. Adams and El-Eshmawi at Mount Sinai in NYC. When I contacted Dr. Gillinov, he had focused his work on less invasive robotic surgery.

Hi Bruce,
Read your post. Want you to know that I have severe calcifications on my MV and also live in VA.
Fairfax hospital's lead MV surgeon wanted to replace my MV. I went to David Adams and he was positive he could repair my MV. - and he did. Had no complications. He told me the calcification was even worse than he thought and had to pick-off some of it.

Cleveland Clinic also said they would do a repair. (Has to be done through sternum.). Any other qts, just ask.

Deena Z I believe your surgery is this April. Getting there. Hang-in-there. Thinking of you. Springtime in NYC is very nice and Mt Sinai is next to Central Park. . You are in the best hands with Dr Adams and his team. He picks only the best for his entire team. The IICU is state-of-the art w/ outstanding care. Hope you found a good hotel! We used the one recommended by Mt. Sinai. Got a corner room, because larger, but still smallish, given it’s NYC.

Hi Bruce ,
I had a severely leaking mitral valve during covid times , I had emergency open heart surgery over three years ago and have a mechanical mitral valve .
When my symptoms started , initially I thought it was the perimenopause . How wrong I was and actually getting seen face to face by a doctor took many weeks , due to covid fears by health care professionals .
You will find this lovely community a huge support and we are here to listen .
