Hey Erik,
I've read a few of your recent posts. I had my BAV replaced 6-5-19 at Mayo by Dr Pochettino, he does good work! I have had No post surgery problems. Check out some of my post surgery photos. I'm 53 and went with the ON-X valve. I only wanted to go through OHS once hopefully. I too was leary about being on warfarin for life but you'll learn to adapt. I dont hear my valve (tick sound). The main thing is, with the new valve I feel Great! You will too! Good luck in your journey. If you are in need of accomodations, there are a couple of hotels across the street from St Mary's hospital,
1. Aspen Suites
2. Aspen select
both offer a Mayo patient rate as well as others . My wife stayed at the aspen suite while I was in hospital.

Erik Jensen Hi Tom - thanks for reaching out. Reading your story, ours are very similar. Glad to hear good things about Pochettino and Mayo, further confirming what I already felt. You are an inspiration! You look great and your recovery seems to be going perfectly. I hope to follow suit :-)
As for the valve, it's super you don't hear the ticking. Honestly, at this point the idea of that is more daunting than the warfarin, but I'm probably working myself up unnecessarily. I heard back from Pochettino on Friday and he's not a fan of the idea of me going with a tissue valve knowing I'd be setting myself up for another procedure down the road. A tissue valve now followed by TAVR years from now seems like a decent plan, but I guess if for some reason both valves failed early I could be looking at OHS when I'm a lot older than I am now. I'm still mulling all this over and will likely make a 'game time' decision on the valve.
Lastly, thanks for the accommodations suggestions. We're booked at the Homewood Suites, right next to Aspen. Thankfully I have some Hilton points to help offset the cost.
Continued good luck in your recovery. Will keep you posted on this end!
