Almost there, Mirza. Soon you will be in recovery. It is helpful to focus on the recovery and how the statistics are so very, very in your favor for a successful surgery. Not like it was decades ago. Know that you will be beyond exhausted and that it will take several days to get more energy. The walks help a lot, though I was not at all in the mood to do my first couple. Godspeed.

You don’t need to ask for a repeat of your tests before your TAVR. The doctors will repeat any tests that they may need. I only had one cath and one CT scan before my open heart surgery, and they were several months before my surgery. A friend of mine had a TAVR in her late 90’s , and did so well she lived to 101. I am betting you will do well, and be surprised that the procedure was not difficult.

I had my TAVR procedure almost two years ago and it went very smoothly. They made small incisions in the groin area and inserted the device through the veins. It was quick and I had no pain afterwards. My cardiologist and the heart surgeon told me that this device will likely save me from a future heart attack. However, don't expect to be filled with energy afterwards. I wasn't but was very relieved. However, we are all different.
I believe they use cow more than pig now. There may be specific reasons for using a pig valve. That’s a doctor question.
Marie Myers Yes, i think that is a doctor question also.

After looking at both the pig and the cow i can see your dilemma. Is it a toss up for longevity? Does one work better than the other? I have no idea but those would be my questions. Does one go in easier than the other? I had a repair at 79 so never had the conversation. Or i might just flip a coin and think bacon or milk and go with bacon.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous Mirza. Open heart surgery is high stakes but I find it comforting reading other people’s stories and how they recovered. I’m also encouraged when I remember that my surgeon is well practiced at this and I can trust her and my team to do what they’ve trained over and over to do. This community is here for you too. 😊❤️🩹

I totally understand the feelings of anxiety with your upcoming procedures. I myself have been through open heart surgery for aortic valve replacement and resection of 2 aneurysms. I do believe that you will find the whole angiogram and TAVR experience doable, and it will help you tremendously. Wishing you a smooth journey through your upcoming procedures!
Barbara Litwin Marie…having the same thing done on Monday…thank you ….your story reads like mine
