Congratulations on your successful surgery. I had mine on July 14th, and like you I notice the difference already - no shortness of breath climbing stairs or walking the dog, no strange cough or feeling of indigestion in bed at night. Just a tight chest and mindful of not over reaching above my head for a while. It is a rainy, rainy day in the DC suburbs, so I won't be walking today, but I move around the house continually, no naps and oddly enough, not even Tylenol now. Isn't it strange, yet wonderful, how even with such major surgery our bodies can heal themselves. Continue to heal and best wishes.

Pat DeBruce Sorry for the delay in answering your message! I forgot about the guestbook posts!
Yes, it is strange and wonderful that our bodies can heal themselves after such a trauma! I was surprised about having minimal pain after moving from ICU to step-down. I took one pain pill in the hospital! I used tylenol at home and warm and cold compresses for my chest and back. Getting into a comfy position to slept was a challenge for a couple of weeks! All of that has subsided. I do have some dizziness and at time get a bit short of breath but the NP at the support group I attend said that this was normal with a valve replacement. She was a part of the surgical team so it helps to talk through the rough spots. I was given the ok on walking my dogs at the end of September. They are one year old Golden's so that would have been a challenge. They are just happy to have me throw their tennis balls farther than five feet---lol!
The weather here has been great for walking, it is a great autumn season. I think walking will be a challenge as the bitter cold and snow move in.
I hope you are continuing to heal and enjoy the gift of well-being!
I have not been to DC---that is on my list in the near future! I will not forget to check my guestbook posts in the future!

Hello Pat, Welcome to the heart family. I actually had surgery 7/29/14 at the Ernst heart center, Royal Oak, We are practically neighbors. Glad that you asre already feeling better. I am two weeks post opntodaybandf feeling so much better. This heart community is amazing. If you ever need a friend there are tons of heart brothers band sisters available. Where do you live? I am in Macomb Township, between Hall/21 Mile off North Avenue. I am around the Royal Oak area frequently. I love to shop at the Farmer's Market. I grew up in Madison Heights.

I continue to do well. I still get winded here and there and I have had some vertigo. I see the cardiologist soon so once again he will probably say, "this is all part of the healing process!" LOL!

I am back to work, I went back on September 14. I must admit I could have used a bit more time off but I can do my job! The last month before surgery was tough.

i have not done cardiac rehab, it was quite costly to me so the doc set up a program for me using the treadmill, walking in the neighborhood and just getting back into the general stuff of life. Sometimes I forget to watch my weight lifting limits!

How is healing process? I so hope do hear back from you and promise that I will not wait two months to answer your message. Have a great night. Pat
