Hello Randy, today is the beginning of the rest of your life. I had a mitral valve replacement on July 29th 2014. The valve could not be repaired. I had no idea how much this faulty valve was effecting my body. Since replacement I feel amazing! The biggest improvement was in my lungs! I always had asthma. Like symptoms, that basically has disappeared. I was diagnosed at age 40 with murmur, and 18 years later it was time to replace.
I would suggest cardiac rehab . This gave me the confidence to know that I can go to the fitness center on my own. My son lives in the Chicago area.
My thoughts and prayers go out today for a smoothe surgery and a fast recovery. Will look for updates on your progress . Before you know it, the healing will begin and you will be on the road to a long and healthy life. I chose the tissue valve too. I am very happy that I do not have to be on blood thinners, and my valve (piggy) is quiet. God Bless you and your family. Text when your up to it.
Hugs from my heart! Mary kidsjunction@gmail.com

Randy,
I had a mechanical valve and aortic root replacement on October 30, 2014. I'm 52 years and everything went fine. You will be fine and recovery is not so bad. Everyday you will feel better. I went back to work in January. Just try to keep a positive attitude and go with the flow. Walking in the hospital a few days after surgery really helps get your heart back in order.
