I kind of wish I'd done it sooner, but I've come out the other side now just fine. Also, I was profoundly scared about it, so that didn't draw me toward a sooner procedure. I only became symptomatic 6-8 months ago, and was doing farm chores involving heavy lifting, etc. all along. I was not interested in damaging my heart, though, so once I had shortness of breath, I backed off. Also, I gradually became activity-averse, just not wanting to do much. I wasn't depressed, but I think my system was helpfully preventing me from overdoing. I'm looking forward to finding out what I naturally want to do, once my brain has gotten the message that I can, and it's safe to.

Dan Fouratt Shawna, I feel your pain. I had no symptoms but failed my stress test. It was 90 days from failure to surgery, is was 60 days from committing to surgery to surgery. I did my research and made my decision in 30 days. After that I focused what I could do for me (upped exercises, upped protein intact, stopped drinking, made post surgery meals, took a vacation). I did not worry about the decision or outcome, that was the first 30 days. Worrying does not improve your perpetration for surgery. One man's advice.
