Hey Ted, I saw that you're a cyclist in Ct. I grew up in Brooklyn N.Y. and started racing when I was about 15 yrs old. I've continued to ride with a short sabbatical until Jan of this year when I had to be off the bike because of the surgery. I had an aneurysm repaired, my aortic valve replaced, the maze procedure and my left atrium clipped. The surgeon told me to stay off the bike for 12 weeks. I walked during that time and got up to 25 miles a week walking. My first week on the bike I did 60 miles and felt pretty good except for the last day when I did almost 20 miles at about 13 mph avg. I felt that! I will take it a bit slower this week. My cardiologist has me on a Beta Blocker and that is what I think is hurting me. It doesn't let your heart rate go up or recover quickly. I went through this drug once before and I hated it.
You said you had your surgery over a year ago? What hospital did you go to? I went to Mount Sinai in NY even though I pretty much live in Florida year round now. But my children live in Bergen County NJ and I didn't feel comfortable with anyone in Florida. I'll be riding in NY when I'm up there during the summer. Are you in Southern Ct? I'll be 73 in July but still ride pretty good. I do about 200-250 miles a week when I'm fit. I have some work to do to get back to where I was but I still need to go easy. How long did it take you to get back to where you

Ted Niedziela Hey Daniel, I'm in SW CT. Post surgery, I started with cardiac rehab (36 sessions) and eased back into cycling 5 months out. I've got about 2,500 miles on the new heart parts and everything is working as expected. I was on beta blockers for about 6 months and struggled as you are with HR. Much better now that I'm off them. Not ready for the Gimbels ride, but I ride regularly with the old guys. I'm the younger one in the group at 63!
My OHS surgery (AVR and AA graft) was Nov '21 at NY Presbyterian. The care and professionalism was first class. Not that I'd want to do it again, but highly recommended heart center.
If you are ever in the NY metro area, hit me up and we can take a spin and share some war stories.

Daniel Green Hey Ted, Thanks for your response. The Gimbels ride! Brings back memories. I use to do it from time to time but when I lived in Rockland my Sunday ride was the Nyack ride or also known as the Rocket ride. A 50 mile ride through the streets of Rockland and NJ. Basically an unsanctioned race. im seeing my cardiologist on May 9th. I really hoping he’ll reduce or take me off the beta blocker. But if I have to be on it for 6 mo I could live with that as I feel pretty good. when I come up North for sometime in the summer I’ll reach out to you maybe we can get a ride in!! regards, Dan

Vincent Racaniello I had three consults also and it was a very easy decision who was going to do it. I think you are in the same ICU location I was. One of those places you never forget. They take great care of you in the iCU though. Best of luck to you for a speedy recovery. If you see Dr Argenziano again give him my regards.
