My wait is over. My surgeon confirmed it’s time. It hasn’t been quite 6 months since my last Echo but things have progressed. So I guess my time is here. Very nervous but working to get myself together.
Judy Shaw You will be fine. We are here to help. Feel free to ask questions.
Mark Wilbur Our thoughts and prayers will be with you, JoAnn.

I went for my Echo on February 8, 2018 and I had a follow up visit with my surgeon on February 12, 2018. I got kinda good news. We have decided that I will continue to wait on my surgery. My surgeon was concerned with the fact I am only 63 and a mechanical valve is what they decide for patients in my age group. To keep from having a 2nd surgery later in life due to the life span of a tissue valve. I am not at the point that this needs to be done right now. I will repeat the Echo in 6 months to reevaluate my Aorta Stenosis. I really want to take this time and check out mortality status for other surgeons in my area. I haven't been able to confirm the one I was sent to. I like everyone else want a good outcome. Prayers for all continuing on with their surgeries.
Don L Here is hoping for a long watchful waiting for you JoAnn.

Jennifer McInerney Just read this. I am in a similar situation but my Cardiologist is recommending a tissue valve. His thoughts are that it should last around 15 years and by then TAVR will be standard. Good luck on your "heart" journey. I will be praying for you.

JoAnn Lenhart Thanks all. I am leaning towards tissue because I feel like everyone else on this issue.

On Dec 4, 2017 I had a appointment at my PCP and my NP observed a heart murmur which she stated was very loud. I was asked if I would consent to having a Echocardiogram. I consented. The Echo was performed and the next day I received the report of the Echo which indicated moderate to severe Aorta Stenosis. I was scheduled an appointment with a Vascular Surgeon at VCU in Richmond Va on January 8, 2018. On that day butI had my 1st Doppler Test. On January 24, 2018 I had a Heart Cath. I am scheduled for another Echo on February 8, 2018. Then a follow up visit with my surgeon on the 12 of February. All of this is very new to me and I am extremely nervous.

Phyllis Petersen Welcome to the community! I knew for many years that I had a heart murmur with regurg, but when word came that I was severe and needed to be fixed, it was still a bit overwhelming. Getting hit with a ton of bricks like you did, of course you're going to be nervous, confused, and very overwhelmed. There's a lot of information on this site, both in the Learning Center and in the Journals. I found answers to questions I didn't know I needed to ask, and, in turn, I was also able to pass information on to others that helped them through their surgeries. Feel free to ask questions. You may not always get an immediate answer, so may need to ask again, but you will get support here to help you through.

Rose Madura I'm like Phyllis. I knew all my life about my heart but when they told me I needed to have the surgery, I still had disbelief and all the emotions that go along with it. Be thankful that your PCP found this and you can take care of this. The doctors know what they are doing and the success rate is very high. Even if you have complications, they know what to do. Best wishes. Keep us posted and let us know if you have any questions.

Elaine Phares We have almost the same timeline! I have opted to go ahead and have the surgery Feb 6, 2018. Had my heart Cath yesterday. Had to go through groin since my arteries in my arm weren't cooperating. So two incisions. Slept like a baby last night without any pain relievers. I was thrilled to know I have no heart damage OR blocked arteries. My valve was inherited from my dad and didn't even know I had a bicuspid valve to two weeks before Christmas. It is severe and murmur loud, but no other symptoms. I'll try to post as soon as I can after surgery. Not looking forward to it, but sure looking forward to living!
