Made it to the other side! I had a successful Ross procedure last Friday. I was the first patient of the day, checked in bright and early at 5:30 a.m. They told me after I woke up that it was a 7-hour operation, but they completed it in 5 hours. However, they kept my chest open for an additional 2 hours to monitor and ensure my heart was beating properly. The ICU nurses were amazing. Waking up was one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever had, but by day two, the pain had alleviated a lot as they adjusted my pain management. I got discharged earlier this afternoon. It's good to be back home!

Marcus Krauss Great news, Joshua! I had my Ross Procedure last Monday, so am only a few days ahead of you in recovery, so I'll say that it's amazing how fast the day-to-day improvement is. Even by this weekend you'll feel noticeably better than you do today.
Deena – I'll try the heating pad. Thank you for the tip! :)
Marcus – That's great to know. We’re also close in age, so I look forward to getting back to being physically active and returning to normal daily activities.
J Alexander Lassally Congrats. Yes the back shoulder pain is pretty intense - wishing you relief there !

I appreciate all the support I’ve received so far, and I would love your positive vibes, well-wishes, or prayers as I head into this next chapter.
Wish me luck!

J Alexander Lassally Hey man - wishing you lots of luck for the procedure. It is indeed life-changing and a major step and I like how you phrased that. I think you will walk in there with resolve and get the job done! Remember to ask for ice cubes in recovery, and don't obsess too much on the spirometer. Work on your own deep breathing in recovery, too... Best...

Robert Miller Well, you get this response after your surgery date. Recovery from OHS is a pain. All those tubes and you can't take a shower and have to lay on your back. It's really annoying. But most likely, you feel so much better after all this is over. So keep this in your mind which will help with recovery. Based on your picture, it seems you have a partner. Have her getting you pillows, maybe a wedge for the bed, etc. That helps a lot.
