Keep a positive attitude, listen to your team, and make it a goal to get home as quickly as possible. I had my aortic valve replaced via open heart surgery 16 months ago. I was pretty much back to normal in 3 months with no restrictions. Once home, begin a walking routine to get your strength back. You’ll do great! Good luck.

By the middle of this October you'll be over 3 weeks post surgery, if my math is close. I am almost 21 weeks since my big day- a valve and aneurysm. The doc and her team made it easier than I would have ever expected. I am delighted. I like my new parts. I don't worry about an impending life ending cardiac event anymore. My bet, and prayer, is you will be happy too, with much to be grateful for.

Hi Mark, Today is my 9th anniversary for my bicuspid aortic valve replacement with a mechanical valve. I think the best advice is to not have fear about your procedure. Less stress on your heart is a better heart. For the post procedural advice, get up and move around (safely with a nurse tagging along with you so you don’t fall). It takes time to build confidence back after the surgery, but don’t have fear.
