Hello everyone....I am a 64 yr old woman who has had AS for any years now from radiation I received when 22 for Hodgekins Disease....It was progressing slowly until this last November when my cardiologist told me it was severe. I live in upstate New York and my family convinced me I should see a cardiologist in NYC. I did six months ago and he confirmed what I was told....and that surgery could be in the near future. Well last Thursday I saw him again and that day he set up my meeting with a cardiac surgeon and I am scheduled Monday for a heart cath with valve surgery scheduled the next day June 7. Wow its happening all too fast now but I'm glad to get it over with. I will be at NY Presbyterian Weill-Cornell Medical Center and Dr. Karl Krieger is my surgeon. all my dealing with this office and hospital have been absolutely amazing. I work in Hospital administration myself and I know that this place is second to none so far! I am very frightened as I suffer from anxiety anyway but I am anxious to have this behind me. I'll keep you posted during my hospital stay and when I get home. Wish me luck! And best of luck to everyone going thru the same thing.

JJ Milton I had mitral valve repair on April 13th. I was pretty nervous too. It sounds like you have a good team working with you. I am almost 8 weeks out now and feeling really good. You will do great. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Rita Savelis Hello. I also had Hodgkins when I was 15 and had 2 valves replaced last year. I'm sorry you (and so many former cancer patients) have to go through with this. Pre-op anxiety is hard.... and it so common. I tried not to be anxious about surgery because it was out of my hands. I do trust surgeons. But I did get anxious about my own ability to deal with post-op. It's all hard and then it happens and you make it through and you're a different person, just as you were after Hodgkin's treatment. DOROTHY CRAWFORD Hello. I am 69 yrs old and had congenital aortic stenosis and atrial fibrillation. Three weeks ago I had a repair of my aortic valve, removal of the membrane causingn the problem and theMaze procedure for the A
fib. I understand how you feel because I was scared to death, but it is behind me now and I am on the med. My prayers and best wishes are with you.

Steven A Husted my best wishes and prayers are with you if you read a lot of post on this site you will find a great many of us were scared or scared to death before surgery but almost all of them will tell you after surgery it was really not as bad as they thought it was going to be i know it helped me to hear so many had made it thru surgery and were doing fine the fear is real but with all the prayers and support from this site and adams book i know we all can make it thru this journey

Della Parlapiano Thank you to all above...I appreciate your kind words of encouragement....I am quite calm tonight and just looking forward to having it behind me.....I have gone thru a few really major surgeries and I'm convinced this won't be any worse than the others...my cardiac surgeon even said that. So I'm looking forward to life with a new valve and hopefully gained strength so I can get back to the gym and my garden....thank you again.
