Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since my mitral valve repair. Crazy how fast the time flies. 2 days after getting home I purchased a Fitbit "Sense" watch. It's been an awesome addition to my recovery. It shows my pulse rate; steps; sleep and I can run and ECG anytime. I love it. I've walked 26 miles in the past 3 weeks.
I'm getting around good now. I still have pain under and in my right breast as well as the ribs there. For the robotic surgery, they went in with about a 4" incision under my right breast. Trying to keep the pressure off the incision has been difficult. Everyday the pain lessons. I've only used Tylenol for pain. The other issue is have is a good size lump in my groin where they put me on the heart/lung machine. They said that would go away but it has not gotten any smaller. I'll get it checked out next visit. Medications are being tapered off and I should be off all by end of November.
Life is good!!! Oh yea..... No palpitations or PVCs for the first time in 40 years.
Rose Madura What a great report Dorothea. May you continue to have good health and feel great.

Dr Trento did the procedure yesterday afternoon at Cedars Sinai Hospital. It was very successful. They moved me out of ICU a couple hours ago. I've walked around the nurses station with assistance I'll be taking another walk shortly. They removed 2 chest tubes.
Everyone here has been a pleasure to be around.
I highly recommend Dr. Trento and the Cedars team.
Susan Lynn Fantastic news! Wishing you continued success with your recovery!! ❤

Dorothea Mansdorfer Came home last night. 4 days post OP. I was really glad to have my bed and recliner. My numbers have been good except for a little elevated pulse' which I hear is normal. I had a shower- woohoo. Still sore in chest and incision area but only when I get up and move around. I'm taking tylenol but only at bedtime. No other medication for pain. Very happy to be at this stage of the journey
Melanie Perkins Dorothea, Fantastic news, glad your home and doing well. I’ll be following your recovery.

I'm heading to Cedars Sinai tomorrow for Covid test and Blood Typing test. I'll stay at a hotel tomorrow night near the hospital as I have to be there Tuesday morning 9:30 to get admitted. We live 2.5 hours from the hospital and I don't want to risk getting stuck in LA traffic. I'm doing pretty good. Have moments of panic but quickly calm myself down. I think the worst for me is the thought of laying there in the OR looking and everyone before we start. That scares the u-know-what out of me lol. Just read Steve Miller's post and his positive attitude brought some calmness tonight. We'll be in at the same time.
Tracy Farnham Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery

Susan Lynn Good luck, Dorothea! Waiting is the worst part of the process, but you're in good hands with Dr. Trento - he's known around the world for his expertise! You probably won't be awake for long in the OR, I was out in a matter of seconds when I had my repair - OR time is expensive! They work very efficiently! It will seem like only a moment has passed, you'll wake up relaxed, and it will be over. Best of luck - you'll do just fine!

Mike Tirrell Hi Dorothea, best wishes on your surgery. Regarding laying in OR, they had given me a light sedative before I went into the OR which helped a lot. Also, the awake time on OR was minimal for me. I was probably awake for maybe 5 minutes in the OR. They asked me to transfer to the operating table and then gave me the mask. 30 seconds later I was asleep and what seemed like 5 minutes later, I woke up in ICU. Good luck, you will be just fine!

Patsy Stewart You are almost there! As for the OR…. you might not even see the OR. Ha! About all I can remember is them checking me in and getting the IVs in place. I can remember talking with the chaplain and my husband, and after that…nothing. The surgeon had told me that he wanted me in a deep sleep before the surgery, and that’s the way it went. I can’t remember anything other than waking up in ICU, and they instantly put me back out. You’re going to rock this! I’ll be thinking of and praying for you tomorrow. Best wishes for a successful surgery. ~❤️
