I know I post all these wierd random questions but having a mechanical valve is so new to me. Does it sometimes seem like the clicking is louder than other times?? And does anyone you know ever say they can hear it when they sit next to You? I was watching a musical with my sister and we were in the audience and she claimed she could hear it and she was a seat away from me and they were talking on stage. It did seem unusually loud that day but I don't think she's be able to hear It. Has anyone had a similar experience? I guess maybe sometimes you are just more aware of it than others.

I might sound a little mental as I post this but I'm wondering if anyone else has felt this. I've had problems with my Aortic valve my whole life and I've always gotten palpatations and such and you can feel it beating sometims and it feels like it beats so hard. 2months ago I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve. I still get the palpatations but sometimes at night it beats so hard it's like I can hear it beating. Does anyone else have that issue? I mean I always hear the clicking from the valve but it almost seems like my palpations are more intense or I don't know it's just different. Does anyone else notice that who has mechanical aortic valve? Just wondering.

Willie Radl I have the On-X in the aortic position (Surgery April 4 2018). I did have a strong heart beat for a few months but that has since tapered off and my BPM have slowed down as well. When I talked to the Dr. about it they said it could take up to a year for everything to fully "settle" down.
Can you heart the palpitations in your valve tick? I didn't have any heart palpitations BUT I did have some muscle spasms in my peck that I always used to think were heart palpitations but I discovered right after surgery they weren't my heart. I actually called the nurse in to my room because I thought I was having Afib but then she was like....no listen to your valve its a smooth rhythm, I also got to see on the heart monitor what I thought were heart palpitations actually weren't.

Too bad I didn't remember this site sooner. I am almost 8 weeks post op now. I am doing AMAZING! I am in cardiac rehab, I still get a little short of breath, i get a little tired cause I am still anemic (on iron supplements), and random chest pains and uncomfortableness. But all that aside I feel amazing. The only thing that takes getting used to is the warfrin, getting my levels correct. And I am wondering what the side effects will be to being on a blood thinner.
