Klara Čičić Hi Louis, these wounds on this picture don't look inflamed, they look fine. Bloody leakage is probably due to straining plus you're probably on blood thinner so it's easier for minor bleeding to happen. If it stopped, I wouldn't be concerned, but definitely check with your provider since this "online" counseling is rarely a good idea. About endocarditis, I share your concern, especially in those first days I was also irrationally afraid of it cause of wounds problems. Chances are really low, though. But we are going to have to be careful our whole life and use antibiotic premedication (prophylaxis) when necessary...

Patsy Stewart Louis, did you mention to the nurse about your bleeding issues? I hope you got some answers today. That’s quite the jump in mg of aspirin per day. I saw your other post and the pictures. My goodness! You did the right thing by calling the office. As for the endocarditis, you just need to be aware that this can happen. It’s especially important to take antibiotics before any dental procedure. I always call my dentist and make sure they prescribe the antibiotics so I can take them before I go. Sending prayers that this gets better for you. I’m anxious to hear what you found out today.

Well first full day home. Took full wk in hospital. Last 2 days I had blood on bandage over where drainage tubes were. One is leaking n sting sutures were left in. Moving and walking like I'm 90. Change bandage around 5 pm from yesterday and little blood but going to bed I noticed more blood below gauze (bigger) hope it doesn't keep leaking as it is concerning. Hey everyone during discharge I was surprised to here we are at risk of something called Endocarditis. Just another thing to be concerned about. Surgery main IV on left arm also had to be changed because is was sore and getting painful along with swelling. Had to contact someone today as it wasn't getting better but not really getting worse. I was only concerned because of that ENDOCARDITIS. Sounded bad but my GP and a Nurse said it happens. Sorry pictures are of leakage still going on.

Not sure where to start. I want to get to reading all you heart angel's but thought I would post update first. Went well check in Tuesday and awoke Wednesday from tissue valve replacement and 1 bypass. They kept changing me care rooms but had to keep me monitored because of heart pulse was running high. Controlled now and they moved me upstairs. Glad down yonder I had asked if they could take that catheter out sooner. Chest tubes were fast but also worried as they said hold breath when pulling out so no air get's in. Off oxygen and chest and leg bandages came off. Walking and eating.
YOU GUY'S I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IN 2022 THE HOSPITAL FOOD IS SO BAD AND BACKWARDS! If they say it's important to eat and do it healthy shouldn't the food be somewhat good and healthy? Maybe it's just me that really does eat healthier then I thought. 😏 I can stand to loose some weight. Sister in Kentucky mailed me this over big heart pillow that is way to big need to go back to a smaller one. Post more later with recovery. Cheers to everyone .

Patsy Stewart Look at you!! Sounds like your recovery is going well. …and yes, that heart pillow is a tad bit bigger than mine. I could be jealous.😉 I got tickled when you mentioned the not so healthy food on the menu. For months before surgery, I was told that I had to gain 15-20 pounds before they would operate on me. They finally settled on10 pounds. I gained absolutely nothing even though I was trying. When I was in ICU, my doctor ask for a dietitian to come in and talk with me. I’ll never forget the look on the lady’s face. She took one look at me and said she didn’t have any information that would help me. She had prepared for visiting someone who needed help curbing their appetite. I haven’t come close to 100 lbs in several years. I later read in my paperwork that someone had come to talk with me about joining Weight Watchers.😂 After that little visit, I started getting Ensure drinks on my tray.🤢 Has anyone bothered to read the ingredients in those things?!! Corn syrup for the win. Lol!! Get better, Louis!

Its next week and I have been trying to relax and think positive. I understand so many go through this but it's so scary and challenges your belief. Delanee Durham Hi Louis! I think it’s ok to admit it’s scary and challenges your beliefs! Everyone goes through their own emotional struggles before surgery, I know I did. It’s easy to feel alone, but know you are not! I wish I had found this support group before surgery but thankful I found it after also! I was 55 and chose a tissue valve also. I still wonder sometimes if I chose correctly but I went with my gut feeling at the time and I believe God was talking to me. I know I will have to face the eventual time when the valve will run its course but I’m excited to see where this field is at and what new research has shone and what my options will be then. I think second guessing can drive you a little crazy, so live your life without doubt knowing you’ll definitely be better off health wise after surgery!

Greg Lewis Hi Louis! I also elected to get a tissue valve. I am completely happy with that decision. Who can say what is around the corner? No matter what we choose to do, or not to do. But i am glad to no longer be on blood thinners. I am a believer in God, and Jesus Christ. He has kept me alive through this. He continues to keep me alive. He constantly moves my hurdles or helps me deal with the newest one. I have no idea, how long my heart will continue to do its job, BUT how is this any different than a year ago? 2 years ago? A day ago? I attempt to lay my anxiety, at the feet of the one that cares for me. I know that you will find your way through all of these struggles. You will come out the other side, stronger, and with more knowledge about your life, than you ever thought imaginable! I read it every day in the stories of other heart heros! Ed is correct. " this aint for the feint of heart" but it will recreate you, as the strongest you, ever!!

Deena Z Louis, if you read through the warriors' surgery stories, very few of us complain about the pain. I know, hard to believe, huh. But apparently there are not that many nerves by the sternum or something like that. Besides, the painkillers, even Tylenol, work really well. As for the tube, most of us, don't remember the tube, but it does vary. I only have a flash (as in seconds) memory of it. So, think about this. The surgery has an incredibly high success rate; the pain is not that bad. The main thing is the incredible exhaustion; you will feel totally depleted. Plus you are young, so way way easier. You will get through this and be so happy that it is over soon. Godspeed. And, oh, don't expect tasty food.
