Lorraine Mobley LOL Thomas! Frank-my doctor did not send me to cardiac rehab, he felt that I was doing great with walking and my bp was stellar, my cardiologist agreed that it was not needed. Catie-I don't even know where that hat came from it was with the Christmas boxed up stuff but hey, it looked like a snowflake to me and it was white so there we go!

Thomas Brusstar FYI, I did cardiac rehab. It was basically similar to exercises I can do at my regular gym, BUT I wore a heart monitor the whole time linked to a central desk with nurses watching everybody. They couldn't get me started until like 60 days post, but it was comforting to know that my increasing activity was fine with my heart. It let me test the bounds and be sure I wasn't hurting myself. Plus at least two blood pressure checks (start and finish) at each session, 3 times a week, was another good baseline to make sure everything looked about right. I didn't learn any new exercises or do anything I couldn't do elsewhere, but the monitors gave me confidence to test myself. Plus the cardiac nursing staff at the desk were fun to be around, which just helps!

Lorraine Mobley Well, tomorrow is the first of October. The month that my open heart surgery is scheduled. I am not going to say I am not nervous, anxious or afraid, of course I am....but I am ready. I have been trying very hard to get ready physically and mentally for this challenge. I have been eating a mostly plant based diet for 3 weeks. I have been Doing a lot of self-care when it comes to prayer, massage and journaling. We spent a great weekend at the beach with all 3 kids and it was very rejuvenating. One reflection I had (of many) was when I took a chair down toward the water and spent some time alone watching the waves... as the waves went in and out, my chair started to sink into the sand....I was wondering, would it sink so low that the water would go over my face, would I struggle? Just as I was thinking that, the chair stopped sinking. The top layer of sand was soft and allowed me to sink only so deep...the lower layer somehow stopped me from going too far down and I felt supported. I know I have a strong faith and foundation and will not struggle, I might sink a little but I will be supported and will survive. Feeling very positive and energetic. I did not know that my daughter Carmen had chosen to snap this photo of me, as I wondered if my chair was about to go under!

Lorraine Mobley When you are in recovery the bandage they use is like an arm band filled with air and the nurse comes in every 20 minutes and removes a few cc's of air. It's a very cool invention! I am learning so much. This one is a piece of gauze with tegaderm and it stays on for 24 hours after the procedure. It itched a lot for me so I took benadryl twice during the time it was on.

Liz Draeger In May I had OHS A replacement, M repair and Tri repair. I was scared but I knew I badly needed surgery. The things that helped me were; keeping busy before surgery with friends and family. I listed to audio tapes which calmed me (very helpful) and after surgery I rested and walked. I also requested something for anxiety as needed. Also very helpful. If I was restless at night I would get up and walk... helped my breathing.
I feel like a new person!
Go get em!!!
